With the Mid-Year Meeting in the rear-view mirror, there are a number of new working groups on the horizon. And after four days of sessions and some excellent networking we successfully wrapped up several working groups and shuttered a few others. We also had some great discussions identifying new work streams and focusing on concrete deliverables for a variety of topics. Watch your inbox for several calls to participate that we will release in the next month or two.
Dairy Feed Data and Field Boundary: GNSS Accuracy both had sessions focused on a quick recap of deliverables, essentially bringing these working groups to an end. The bulk of each session was to discuss what topic to tackle next in each area. Both had a variety of topics to pursue and after a few more discussions and a little research we plan to fine tune the deliverables and get new working groups established.
Weather Data API and European Reporting – ADAPT Mapping working groups were both mothballed. The weather data team still has interest in creating a standard API, but we have struggled to get the right mix of participants, so the team did not want to continue without the buy-in from all the relevant market segments. The project will be archived until enough of the right organizations are interested.
The European reporting group was moved to a similar status based on the capacity of the participants involved. A new working group focused on gap checking some of the closed loop spray work against the new ADAPT Standard was determined to be a higher priority. Due to the likely large overlap in participants the decision was made to shelve the effort and discuss picking it back up after the work order/work record working group wraps up.
Following discussions within the ADAPT Standard group that progressed to the Agrisemantics committee, we will also be setting up a new working group to work on a more flexible model for a field operation controlled vocabulary. Based on a few issues submitted to ADAPT on GitHub and subsequent discussions it seemed like a good topic for a working group to address and make a proposal to the ADAPT and Agrisemantic committees on how to address the issue. This will be similar to what was done with the crop definition work and Field Boundary GNSS Accuracy working groups.
The Data Ethics working group had a good session reviewing the draft of the white paper. There are a few minor tweaks and additions to be made, but they are on track to release the paper by early July. This will be just ahead of the Tech Hub Live show, providing a good opportunity for staff and members in attendance to promote the paper to the industry and gather feedback.
As usual, if you have any questions on the activities of any of these working groups, an idea for a new group, or want to get engaged feel free to contact me (ben.craker@aggteway.org), or sign up for a working group here.
