Harvest is well underway across the Northern Hemisphere. In fact, I was talking to our EVP and resident farmer Jeremy Wilson at the beginning of September, and he was in the combine this year earlier than he could ever remember. It’s a little reminder that while we plan and prepare and put in the effort to produce a crop or product or service, sometimes the end result arrives earlier – or later – than we expect.
This year, AgGateway members have been busy working on resource enhancements that will ultimately enable increased productivity and efficiency. Some examples include:
Several of you have stepped up to lead working groups and share experiences via webinars, and your time and willingness to engage in this work are appreciated. And like any farm operation or agribusiness, this planning and preparing and putting in effort affords us the opportunity to experience our own “harvest” – resource implementation.
Every connection completed, every message integrated, every enhancement prioritized and developed reflects a commitment to efficiency and business resilience. Better data quality resulting from electronic message exchange lowers shrink and improves visibility to products and services, reduces manual tasks, and allows your operation to do more with the people you have. It allows you to think about the next steps in your supply chain, either with your customers or your suppliers, and to identify areas where there are still gaps or emerging opportunities. It could offer a better way to obtain product information. It could enable integration with truly machine actionable label data. It could advance analytics tools to examine the data you already have and build provenance reports for your customers, addressing their needs for efficacy or sustainability records.
Harvest is never the end of the story, of course … another crop to plant, and new projects to plan and launch. We will have time to reflect on the work we’ve done and continue to do when we meet in Nashville in November. We have a great lineup of speakers who will help frame the challenges and opportunities in policy, technology, and farmer/producer use of technology, and hopefully spur some high value conversation.
