Moving Precision Ag Activities Forward at InfoAg 2018

By Susan Ruland, AgGateway Communications Director

AgGateway had a strong presence at the annual InfoAg Conference in St. Louis, Mo., last month. In addition to exhibiting, AgGateway President & CEO Wendy Smith, and Executive VP & COO Brent Kemp, discussed AgGateway initiatives and projects with many of the companies in attendance. More than 30 AgGateway members exhibited at the event – and proudly displayed their “AgGateway Member” placards at their booths. Several AgGateway leaders were also on the program.

AgGateway was once again pleased to share our booth with the Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF), demonstrating the mutual interest of both organizations in promoting the implementation of standards.

One of the news items AgGateway shared with attendees was the release of a 2-minute introductory video that shares basic information on the AgGateway ADAPT Framework, an open source software project that is designed to simplify communication between growers, their machines and their partners. The video, https://ADAPTFramework.org/adapt-videos, answers general questions about what ADAPT is and how it works. The goal of the video is to encourage software developers to adopt ADAPT within their products.

Earlier this year, AgGateway released Version 2 of the ADAPT ISO Plugin, making it easier for FMIS systems to read and write data to/from displays and terminals that follow the ISO11783 specification. Several major original equipment manufacturers and software companies with specialized services have either completed plugins or made formal commitments to release them for many of their proprietary data formats. More information about the status of this effort can be found at https://ADAPTFramework.org/companies-supporting-adapt/.

We look forward to following up on the many positive contacts made at this year’s InfoAg, and also to exhibiting later this year at the Agricultural Retailers Association meeting in Boca Raton, Fla.
