AgGateway Offers Special Workshop on the new ADAPT Toolkit for Interoperability of Precision Ag Systems

Co-Located with Mid-Year Meeting, June 16 in Minneapolis

Washington, D.C., April 28, 2016 – AgGateway is offering a special workshop June 16 in Minneapolis to provide helpful guidance to software developers and business leaders wishing to use the new, open-source ADAPT toolkit to allow interoperability in precision agriculture applications. The interactive one-day session is open to all; there is a $75 fee for workshop-only attendees, and no charge for attendees registered for AgGateway’s Mid-Year Meeting, which takes place immediately before the workshop (June 13-16).

The workshop features two tracks: a technical track for software developers and a business track for business managers. Topics include an overview of AgGateway precision agriculture activities, the business case to support implementation of ADAPT, an ADAPT data model review, how to get started (framework implementation, plug-in manager), how to provide input on the open-source initiative, and much more. 

“We encourage anyone involved in providing precision ag applications, machine terminals or data collection systems to growers to come and find out how adopting ADAPT will provide enormous benefits – and will finally get the industry over the major hurdle of interoperability between systems,” said Mark Stelford, General Manager, Premier Crop Systems and Chair of AgGateway’s ADAPT Oversight Committee. 

ADAPT (Agricultural Data Application Programming Toolkit) responds to the promise of seamless communication between different precision agriculture systems – regardless of the system manufacturer. It is designed to eliminate the major pain points to broad use of precision agriculture data by easily enabling interoperability between different software and hardware applications. For example, ADAPT will enable farm information management applications to easily use precision ag data collected on vehicle displays (field computers). 

AgGateway's ADAPT Committee is now coordinating with software companies on plug-ins for a company’s proprietary format to allow the conversion from one format to another. Development of these plug-ins will allow for ADAPT's broad adoption in the industry.
