A Busy Fall Ahead

Our working groups are continuing to chip away at their deliverables with each making steady progress on their march to improve the specific interoperability pain point they set out to address.

Progress was a little slow in August since a lot of volunteer members were on holiday and balancing other commitments. But people are now coming back recharged and ready to wrap up some of these projects. We are also getting a few more working groups organized following the roundtable discussions at the Mid-Year Meeting. There were some great discussions and ideas shared that we are refining into some clear deliverables and scope. So be on the lookout for the new calls to participate in the coming weeks.

WG12 PAIL is continuing to watch the progress of ISO7673 through its ISO committee, and things are progressing. Part 1 was recently approved, and Part 2 is currently the focus for updates focused on making requirements more explicit. The working group is also churning through observation examples based on the standard to ensure the proposed structure covers common use cases as expected.

WG31 Field Operations | Controlled Vocabulary group is continuing to refine its work into more manageable lists of attributes that define a field operation. There is a renewed focus on what dimensions of an operation are truly the pieces of information specific to the operation type and are not already included in different parts of the existing ADAPT Standard data structure.

WG34 Field Boundary | Obstacles is moving on to a proposed addition to the ADAPT Standard data model to incorporate more obstacle information. With the different key aspects of an obstacle defined they are reviewing what other information is needed beyond the categorization elements to accurately exchange information about obstacles between systems.

WG35 Data Stewardship Metadata also kicked off. The main discussions have focused on coordinating meeting times going forward and discussing the scope, deliverables and primary use cases for the project. The group is starting with creating some use cases based on existing ADAPT Standard scenarios but focusing them more on the data stewardship considerations, and not the usual interoperability issues ADAPT normally addresses.
