eConnectivity Matters
Election Reflections
By Wendy Smith, AgGateway President and CEO

Finally, it's almost over. If you're like most Americans - including myself, you're relieved to be in the home stretch of the U.S. presidential election. The level of political discourse during the past few months truly sank to new depths, at least in my memory.

But there's been another election in the past few weeks, which stands in sharp contrast to the national race - the election of AgGateway's new Strategic Board and council leadership positions for 2017. Sure, I know there's not much controversy when it comes to selecting leaders for our organization, compared with choosing the leader of the Free World, but I can't help point out some of the more positive aspects of our election.  > Continue reading...

ADAPT
Grower Organizations Encourage Implementation of ADAPT
AgGateway Press Release

A dozen leading U.S. grower organizations are hailing the collaborative efforts that led to the new AgGateway ADAPT framework for interoperability in precision ag systems - citing the many benefits to farmers, and are calling on Farm Management Information System (FMIS) companies to formally commit to integrating the ADAPT framework into their systems in the near future.

The support was expressed in a letter this month to AgGateway Chairman David Black from the American Farm Bureau Federation, American Soybean Association, National Association of Wheat Growers, National Barley Growers Association, National Corn Growers Association, National Cotton Council, National Farmers Union, National Sorghum Producers, National Sunflower Association, U.S. Canola Association, U.S. Dry Bean Council, and USA Rice.  > Continue reading...

NASDA Policy Supports Paperless Tonnage Reporting
By Brent Kemp, AgGateway Executive VP/COO

AgGateway is applauding the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NADSA) for joining its voice to a industry-wide call for moving the regular reporting of fertilizer tonnage between states and companies to an electronic, paperless system. The policy amendment was adopted by the organization at its annual meeting last month, and is being forwarded as part of NASDA policy to state officials involved with tonnage reporting.

"NASDA encourages the adoption - by both states and industry - of electronic, paperless mechanisms for U.S. fertilizer tonnage reporting," the policy amendment states.

More than 15 states are already accepting XML or Excel tonnage reporting data - either fully or partially using seamless reporting, and more industry participants are developing to the new specifications. Moving to paperless reporting requires coordination between state and industry representatives so that new data standards are adopted and used by both parties. AgGateway, The Fertilizer Institute, AAPFCO and the Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) have developed and heralded these common standards as a way forward in achieving paperless reporting.  > Continue reading...

Get Ready for the Big Trip
By Josh Wall, AgGateway and AGIIS Product Manager

As a father of two young kids, I understand the importance of preparing and packing well when our family goes on a trip. Over the years, my wife has gradually designated me as the official "Pre-Trip Coordinator," which basically leaves me in charge of making sure the kids have packed everything they need but not too much or anything inappropriate, such as perishable food or a live animal. This experience has given me a better appreciation for planning that serves me in my professional life.

As the AgGateway Annual Conference rapidly approaches, I encourage you to set some time aside and prepare for your upcoming trip to Orlando. There are many opportunities to broaden your knowledge base, network with people in agriculture who are also focused on eBusiness, discover solutions for your company's eConnectivity challenges, and much more.   > Continue reading...
