LATAM Region | August Meetings Review and Look Ahead

By Jose Loyola, LATAM Region Director

On August 1st, 20 members of the Latin America region held a meeting at the Instituto Eldorado in Campinas. The Instituto Eldorado is a renowned private research institute which serves agribusiness and other important business sectors such as telecommunications and automotive by developing systems and testing equipment to validate quality standards, among other activities.

Key topics of discussion included a session on the challenges related to interoperability of agricultural data from the company Girassol Agrícolas (a Varda initiative), the status of Soil Laboratory Data and next steps of the Climate Data project, and an institutional presentation of AGCO and new member Avance Hub.

One of the next steps of the climate data project was to schedule a meeting, which was held last month with the technical professionals from member companies who showed interest in the project. Among the organizations represented were Embrapa Agricultura Digital, CNH Industrial, Nutrien, and Topcon. It was decided that two groups would be formed – one to discuss use cases, and the second to develop the project. AgGateway members will be given the opportunity to join either group and work will move forward.

The next member meeting will be on 4 October at Cubo Agro in São Paulo. Cubo Agro is an innovation hub that fosters the development of agribusiness startups, and was suggested as a meeting location by Adriano Becker of CNH, which is a partner in the Cubo Agro with other leading agriculture organizations.

Topics and presenters for this next meeting will be developed beginning in September by the Latin America Region Steering Committee. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to me via email at loyola@aggateway.org.
