Latin America Update

ABPSAP Membership to Expand Influence

By Jose Alexandre Loyola, Regional Director

First of all, I have some late breaking news regarding a new associate membership for AgGateway in Latin America. We are now members of the Brazilian Association of Precision Agriculture Service Providers (ABPSAP).

This is an exciting development for us on multiple fronts. First and foremost, it will allow to engage with more than 200 Brazilian companies who are also stakeholders in the advancement of digital connectivity and interoperability in agriculture.

This group of organizations is largely concerned with soil and other laboratory testing work, and our recent WG 11 work aligning MODUS to formats used in Latin America is of particular interest.

In addition, ABPSAP holds a seat on the Brazilian Commission of Precision Agriculture (CBAP) within the Ministry of Agriculture, providing AgGateway insights on national ag policy while raising the profile of standards-based data connectivity through our reciprocal agreements.

We’re thrilled to be a part of ABPSAP and look forward to interacting with the organization in the months and years ahead.

Outreach in September

I was excited to attend the Expo Agrofuturo fair in Medellín, Colombia, for the first time on 10-11 September. My goal was to prospect new members from other Latin American countries and learn more about Colombia's digital and precision agriculture initiatives. Several contacts were made, and we attended several lectures on Colombia’s digital ecosystem.

Also, on 23-24 September we participated in the seventh ApSul Américas event, held in the city of Não Me Toque, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The event was organized by the Cotrijal Cooperative, the Federal University of Santa Maria, and the Federation of Agriculture of Rio Grande do Sul (FARSUL). Several lectures and discussions were held on innovation in agriculture in the face of climate, economic, and social challenges.
