AgGateway’s Ag Industry Identification System (AGIIS) serves as a centralized repository of agricultural eBusiness reference data for industry subscribers. AGIIS provides industry-standard data elements and unique identifiers that form the foundation for efficient electronic interactions between companies. As we begin the new year, this is an ideal time to share an overview of the current state of AGIIS—by the numbers.

AGIIS is a subscription-based service with 68 Full Subscribers, who can add and update entities and products within the system, and 68 Search/View Subscribers, who can view but not modify data. In total, there are 1,231 active users representing 136 subscribing organizations.

Currently, 20 subscribers manufacture products and make them available for industry use through AGIIS. These manufacturers have loaded 270,799 products at the Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) level, which represents the product’s lowest saleable unit. The 14-digit GTIN is supplied by the product manufacturer. In addition to users accessing product data via the AGIIS web interface or API, 95 scheduled product export reports are actively delivering product attributes to trading partners to support processes such as ordering, invoicing, shipping, returns, and rebates.

AGIIS also maintains a directory of approximately 5,649,619 active entities, all of which are managed by the subscriber community. An entity is defined as a unique combination of a name and address. Each entity is assigned a Global Location Number (GLN). The 13-digit GLN is derived from a GS1 company prefix (purchased by the owning organization), a location number, and a check digit. Through AgGateway’s relationship with GS1 US, AGIIS can purchase GS1 company prefixes, assign them within the system, and enumerate entities with GLNs. Each GS1 prefix allows for the assignment of up to 100,000 GLNs. In 2025, AGIIS assigned 97,217 new GLNs—an increase from 75,210 in 2024, though fewer than the 137,775 assigned in 2023. Perhaps one of the most important numbers is the support behind the system.
