AgGateway’s ADAPT and ISOXML Plugin Receives 2019 AE50 Award

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has named AgGateway’s ADAPT and ISOXML Plugin the winner of a 2019 AE50 award. AE50 awards honor the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries.

AgGateway’s ADAPT Framework (Agricultural Data Application Programming Toolkit) is an open-source project designed to make it easy for various hardware and software systems that growers use in their businesses to seamlessly communicate with one another in a shared data format. This year AgGateway released the ADAPT ISOXML Plugin, making it easier for Farm Management Information Systems (FMIS) to read and write data to/from displays and terminals that use the ISOXML specification. The plugin provides a standard that can either be adopted or used as a guide in developing other plugins that allow proprietary systems to “plug in” to the ADAPT framework.

All segments of the agricultural industry that either use or create field operations data are expected to benefit from ADAPT, especially as leveraging data becomes critical for advancing productivity, efficiency and sustainability.

“This AE50 Award is a true honor, and yet another confirmation of the importance of the ADAPT framework and the new ISOXML Plugin,” said Dan Danford, Chairman of AgGateway’s ADAPT Oversight Committee and Global Industry Relations Manager-Precision Solutions at CNH Industrial America LLC. “The honor is all the sweeter because this award doesn’t go to any one company or individual – it is an achievement of many leaders from many different companies who came together through AgGateway to solve this problem of interoperability, moving the whole industry forward.”

ADAPT is an international open-source project, offered free of charge for developers to adopt into their proprietary systems, to the benefit of growers. It was created through a collaborative effort of many manufacturers and developers throughout the industry. Last month AgGateway released ADAPT 2.0, incorporating enhancements to facilitate adoption by the broad agricultural community.

AgGateway’s ADAPT and ISOXML Plugin are featured in the January/February 2019 special issue of ASABE’s magazine Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World. Companies from around the world submit entries to the annual AE50 competition and up to 50 of the best products are chosen by a panel of international engineering experts. The judges focus on engineering developments that help farmers, food processors and equipment manufacturers increase efficiency, enhance quality, improve safety, and increase profits.
