The value of weather data to the ag industry cannot be overstated; from driving decisions on the ground to helping strategize at the supply chain and insurance level, weather data is critically important. Like many other data sources in the industry, however, it suffers from a lack of standardization, which creates problems when trying to scale solutions.
If you are attending the Mid-Year Meeting and are a stakeholder in the collection and use of weather data, please consider joining us for an important working group meeting on Monday, June 10 at 10:00 am.
AgGateway created Working Group 23 to build on existing work from the Precision Ag Irrigation Language (PAIL) project, now ISO 7673, to get to a standardized open weather data API design that can be used across the industry while enabling different business models. At the Mid-Year Meeting, the working group will share initial results and plan next moves. Please put this in your calendar; more information is coming in the June newsletter.
In the meantime, the team has prepared a short survey to better understand current weather data API use, offerings, and future trends. Please follow this link to participate either as a weather data producer or consumer: WG23 Survey
